RFID Laundry Tags came from the developers of inventory control systems for commercial laundry processes, specifically for the higher valued rental garments.

Omnia Technologies' RFID Laundry tags are developed to provide a means of automatically reading garments without a line-of-sight read requirement and provide a durable tag that could survive multiple washings.

The technical requirement is read only in some cases and read-write in others. Some call for individual identification while others require batches of the same identity.
