Merchant Applications Inc. was established in 1986 to develop, market, and support Retail Management Systems for specialty retailers. Working in the Unix environment, Merchant Applications developed a sophisticated product for use by multi store retailers.
In 1994, realizing the growing popularity of Microsoft Windows, Merchant Applications embarked upon the development of a new Retail Management System originally utilizing Visual Basic, SQL Server, and Microsoft Access. The many years spent developing the Unix product had provided Merchant Applications with a wealth of knowledge in the design and implementation of distributed retail systems. Today, using the latest Microsoft .NET technologies has enabled them to be at the leading edge of technology for Windows based retail solutions.
In 1995, the Unix product was sold allowing Merchant Applications to concentrate its full energies on further developing and enhancing the Windows product.
At present there are over 200 customers using their software in Canada, United States and in the Caribbean. This represents approximately 2,500 machines running Merchant RMS. Their customers cover a broad range of retail categories including fashion, sporting goods, jewelry and hard goods.
